How this list was compiled (and what it is not)

These profiles were compiled in August 2026 from BBB's St. George roofing-contractor listings and each company's own public website. The list is alphabetical and unranked — we don't score, rate, or endorse anyone on it, and inclusion isn't a recommendation any more than omission is a criticism (the local market has dozens of operators; these are the most established names we could verify). We connect homeowners with independent local roofing contractors — we don’t perform roofing work ourselves. When we connect you with a contractor through this site, it may or may not be a company on this list.

One thing we deliberately leave out: license status. Licenses lapse, renew, and change — a status printed here would be stale the month after we wrote it. Instead, verify whichever company you shortlist at secure.utah.gov/llv/search (Utah DOPL, classification S280) at hiring time. It takes two minutes and it's the single highest-value check in the vetting guide.

The market at a glance

St. George's roofing market is unusually deep for a city its size — BBB's local roofing-contractor category alone returns well over a hundred listings, and that undercounts the sole proprietors who work entirely on referral. The depth follows the housing math: Washington County has been one of the fastest-growing housing markets in the country, layering brand-new subdivisions (warranty and punch-list work) on top of 1990s–2000s stock now hitting shingle end-of-life in a climate that ages asphalt early. Structurally, the market has three tiers: local independents rooted in Washington County, regional multi-city operators running crews across Utah, and national franchises selling via canvassing teams. Price, accountability, and sales pressure all vary more between those tiers than between companies within one.

Match the company to the roof, not the ad budget

The most common shortlisting mistake here is treating all roofers as interchangeable when St. George runs four distinct roof systems. Tile roofs (much of Bloomington, Santa Clara, Ivins, and HOA communities like Entrada and Sun River) need a company that relays tile and replaces underlayment routinely — ask directly how many tile underlayment jobs they did last year, and whether they source discontinued profiles. Flat and low-slope sections on desert-modern homes need genuine foam or membrane capability, a specialty many shingle-first crews subcontract out; if it's subcontracted, you want that stated in the bid with the sub named. Asphalt shingle is everyone's bread and butter — so differentiate on underlayment spec and wind-rating detail instead. • Utah DOPL license lookup (secure.utah.gov/llv/search) — active status and classification S280, matching the exact business name on the bid.

• City of St. George permit records — a contractor who pulls local permits routinely has a track record the building department has seen; asking "who pulls the permit?" also smokes out the "we don't need one" crowd.
• Utah courts record search — a pattern of collections or contract suits involving homeowners is public record and worth five minutes on a five-figure hire.
